Vitiligo

I still feel like throwing up. :( ggrr.. I was able to ride in a jeepney whose driver got a skin disease called VITILIGO. The most horrible thing is, I was seated at the front/passenger seat of the jeepney. If only I knew I would be sitting beside a driver who looks that weird, I would have sitted at the back part instead. Uhhmm.. The other person sitting to my right (and another passenger) is a rather ugly midget lesbo who keeps on picking her nose. That was really eeww.. Now I am now quite confused of which of those two people in the jeep got me this horrible feeling now. Is it the driver with vitiligo or the ugly midget lesbo who kept on picking her nose until the end of my ride. Gosh.

So what’s Vitiligo? In an episode of Oprah Winfrey in the year 1993, the famous Michael Jackson revealed to the whole world that he is suffering from Vitiligo–a disease that causes the loss of skin pigmentation resulting to irregular patches in the skin. Just imagine a dalmatian and you’ll probably get what I am trying to say here. Vitiligo and Albinism is definitely different from one another. Vitiligo is an auto-immune disease caused by genetics and some other environmental factors while Albinism is the loss of skin pigmentation due to inheritance of a recessive gene that causes albinism. An albino man doesn’t really possess anything that is pigmented. The eyes doesn’t have a covering that will protect itself from the bright rays of the sun, the skin makes itself very prone for skin cancer for the lack of melanin, the hair and everything else which is supposed to be colored is uncolored. Go figure. On the other hand, a person with Vitiligo only has a problem with the patches or the lack of continuity of the skin color. The hair and the eyes are still dark colored, etc. So, which of the two freaks you out the more? Is it an albino man or a human dalmatian? Uhhmm.. I would like to say sorry for those who will get offended with this blog. It’s just that I really feel bad about what I have seen earlier this morning. I am sorry for all of you who suffer in this kind of skin diseases. I hope science will find ways on how to deal with it.

Anyway, the patches caused by vitiligo can be fixed by make-up or other cosmetic camouflage solutions. Bleaching may help too, I guess. People with vitiligo are encouraged to go out of the house and sunbathe to regenerate the skin pigments.  There is also what we call phototherapy which uses a special kind of ultraviolet rays which can help cure the disease. Special creams such as Protopic and Elidel is said to be helpful to regain the skin color too. So if money is not an issue to a patient, Vitiligo can be stopped. Plastic surgery may help too..maybe..

Thoughts on plastic surgery

According to wikipedia, the use of plastic surgery has been too long enough that even Romans in the 700BC are using it. Before, it was done to repair ears, noses and other parts of the body that has been damaged by the war. Personally, I cannot picture out how they really do it before since they lack the technology that we have now. As per definition, plastic surgery is a medical specialty that uses a number of surgical or nonsurgical techniques to change the appearance and function of a person’s body. The techniques include incision, excision, microsurgery, chemosurgery, electrosurgery, lasersurgery, dermabrasion, and liposuction. Among all these techniques, I am more excited to learn more about liposuction. Maybe in the next entries, I would be blogging about it.
